C-Saw News
Siblings Group
Following the success of the last Siblings Group, another one has been arranged for Saturday 20th September 2008. The group is for children who have a brother or sister with an autistic spectrum disorder. The day will provide an opportunity to find out more about autism, share experiences, play games, have a laugh, make new friends, meet others in a similar situation, and generally have fun!! Call 01745 817200 for more details.
Holiday Club
C-SAW runs a Holiday Club for autistic children during school holidays. The Holiday Club is for children between the ages of 8-16 who have a diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and is held at Gerrdi Glasfryn, part of Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn in Denbigh. The weeks are filled with fun and games and all the children who attend really enjoyed themselves. Check out the photos of the club by clicking here. All the children who attend the club enjoyed a range of structured fun activities such as clay modeling, cooking, craft sessions, outdoor play etc. Feedback from parents has been very positive.
The Holiday Club will be open during the 1/2 term half term holiday in October. We are taking bookings now. All children need to be booked in before the day. Please note, we cannot take children without them being pre-booked.
The costs are £22.50 for a full day, and £12.50 for a half day session. All parents need to fill in application forms before your child can attend the club. This is to ensure that your child gets the best care possible. For further information or to book a place for your child call the C-SAW office on 01745 817200. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Young Persons Service
Is your child coping with major changes in their life, have they changed schools or moved house and can't cope with the change? If so, why not phone our Family Support Worker and have a chat? Pam holds a mountain of information on transition and related issues in the office and can signpost you to relevant organisations.
If your child is 14 years of age, then its time to start thinking about your child's future and start preparing for their adult life. To help you through this often tricky process, we have put together a Transition Pack. This pack will guide you through the process and help you make the best decisions for your child. The pack is available free of charge to parents and carers and is available from the C-SAW Office.
Young Persons Social Group
Pam also runs a Young Persons Social Group for people between the ages of 16-25 who have an ASD. The group currently meets twice a month and enjoys a variety of activities. Activities include skiing, ten-pin bowling, bingo and much much more. Click here to see the photos of what we do.
The group has an action packed diary of events planned for the coming months. Click here to to see the diary, and call Pam in the office to find out further details and to book a place.
Parent Coffee Mornings
C-SAW hold regular coffee mornings in our office in Denbigh town Centre. Please contact the C-SAW office for further information.
Parent Information/ training sessions
C-SAW holds regular parent seminars/ training sessions on topics that parents have requested. We have a few lined up for the coming months. Seminars are arranged on Music as Therapy, Transition and what's next, Advocacy, and a talk by a gentleman who has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and how he deals with the issues that ASD brings. All seminars are provided free of charge. Please contact the C-SAW office for further information.
Counselling
We all struggle in our daily lives at some point, and often talking to someone can help us through the difficult times . Many people choose a professional counsellor to talk to rather than a family member or friend. C-SAW is pleased to be able to offer counselling sessions, free of charge, to parents and carers of people who have an autistic spectrum disorder. Our confidential counselling sessions are provided at time and a venue to suit you. Each session lasts up to one hour. Please contact the office for further details and to make a booking.
Trampoline Sessions
C-SAW, supported by HSBC Bank PLC, ran a series of trampoline sessions over the summer holidays for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. The sessions were a great success and we are pleased to be able to tell you that we are able to run the sessions on a weekly basis as from Saturday 4th October. The sessions will run every Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm in Prestatyn Leisure Centre. Again, these will be provided free of charge.
Journeys End
At the beginning of the year, a journalist called Michael Jones came to North Wales to write an article on C-SAW and Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn. The article was called Journeys End and it was published in the March/ April 2007 edition of Special Children. To read the article, click here...
