The New Building
A bit of history
The Day Centre is part of the Gwynfyn site of the former North Wales
Hospital. The construction of the North Wales hospital as the first
mental hospital in Wales began in 1846, and over the following years
the building was extended until the hospital reached its peak capacity
of 1,500 patients in 1956.
Gwynfryn House was bought in 1926 to accommodate 25 – 30 ‘useful
female patients’ and the building that we know as the Day
Centre was added on this site after this time.
Renovation of the Day Centre
We have been gifted the Day Centre building, via Denbighshire County
Council, by the Welsh Assembly Government with the purpose of
developing it into a Parent & Resource Centre. As
you can see from the photos, the building needs a lot of
work but, when it is renovated the building will have meeting
rooms and a meeting area, a resource library, a child’s
play area, a kitchen / cafe, as well as housing the C-SAW Trust Office.
We are applying to Trusts Funds and local big business to raise
the money we need to renovate the building but If
you would like to make a donation please click here.
